Blackground
Khao Luang National Park, located in the Amphoe of Phipoon, Chawang, Lansaka, Muang, Phromkiri, Changgrang, and Nopitam, Nakhonsrithamarat Province, was designated the 9th national park of Thailand on December 18, 1974 and covers an area of 570 square kilometers (about 140,850 acres) with height is 1,835 meters from mean sea level (MSL), the highest mountain in the South.
Khao Luang was known as the Green Southern Roof, Waters of Nakhon and the Tree Fern Mountain.
Krung Ching means a plateau nestled in the mountains. The seven-tier fall originates from Krung Ching stream in the plain of Kung Ching Bay, and in the compounds of Khao Laung National Park formally this lace was Klumpattana Chat Thai Community Camp (The Thai Development Cooperation Community). |

It has been today a tourist attraction the most beautiful tier of the fall is the second tier known as “Naan Fon Saen Ha” (means heavy rain) as there is a big cascade falling down from the high clife.
Topography / Flora and Fauna
Majority of area is the complex forest and high mountain, has a somewhat unique biodiversity same as Doi Inthanon, north of Thailand for the example Green-tailed Sunbird. Forest communities include evergreen forest found Malacca teak, Orange chempaka, Yang, iron wood, Rhododendron, Giant mountain fishtail palm, Tree fern, and others.

Bird Watching
Krung Ching Waterfall is the one best bird watching site in the South, and is one of the five remarkable bird watching sites in Thailand. The best period for bird watching in Krung Ching is from March to July in which the bird watcher can encounter both residents and migrants.
The Bird Watching Trail at the 1st park’s checkpoint to the bus parking, several spercies of bird are found such as Raffle’s Malkoha, Red-billed Malkoha, Chestnut-breasted Malkoha, Asian Paradise-flycatcher (white morph), Grey-rumped Treeswift, Red-bearded Bee-eater, White-crowned Hornbill, Dark-throated Oriole, Green Broadbill, Black-and-Yellow Broadbill, Scarlet-rumped Trogon, Rufous Piculet, Barbets, etc.
The Bird Watching Trail to Krung Ching waterfall, you can find Diard’s Trogon, Hooded Pitta, Banded Pitta, Black Hornbill, Malaysian Rail-babbler, Grey-and-Buff Woodpecker, Buff-rumped Woodpecker, Buff-necked Woodpecker, etc.

The Bird Watching at Camping Area. In this area, you can find Brown Barbet, Wallace’s Hawk-Eagle, Lesser Fish-Eagle, Buffy Fish-Owl, etc.
It also hosts more than 200 species of birds, many of which are rarely found in other areas.

BLACK-AND-YELLOW BROADBILL
Scientific Name: Eurylaimus ochromalus
Family: Eurylainidae
Description and status: Black head separated form black of back by white collar and by paler pinkish underparts. Pale lemon yellow lower belly and under tail coverts. Male: complete black band across upper breast.
Voice: kyeeow-kyeeow-kyeeow...
Range: SE Asia, Myanmar, Thailand.
Status: Fairly common resident.
Habitat: Evergreen forests, forest edge and secondary growth up to 700 m. |

GREEN BROADBILL
Scientific Name: Calyptomena viridis
Family: Eurylainidae
Description and status:Plump and short-tailed, with bright green plumage. Male: bill almost completely covered by feathering. Black ear patch and wing bars. Female: duller green, unmarked plumage.
Voice: toi, toi-oi-oi-oi-oick.
Range: SE Asia, Myanmar, Thailand.
Status: Fairly common resident.
Habitat: Evergreen forest below 800 m. |

SCARLET-RUMPED TROGON
Scientific Name: Harpactes duvaucelii
Family: Trogonidae
Description and status: Striking pale-blue orbital skin above and in front of eye in both sexes. Male: bright red rump and upper tail coverts. Female: shows both red and rufescent brown feathers mixed on rump and upper tail coverts.
Voice: teu teu teu.
Range: SE Asia, S Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia.
Status: Uncommon resident.
Habitat: Evergreen forest of lowlands and lower hill slopes; occasionally as high as 400 m. |

DARK-THROATED ORIOLE
Scientific Name: Dark-throated Oriole
Family: Oriolus
Description and status: White belly with broad black streaks and yellow under tail coverts. Male: black head, throat and upper breast. Yellow mantle and rump. Female: upperparts uniform bright olive-green; throat, breast and belly whitist, steaked black.
Voice: kyew
Range: SE Asia, S Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia.
Status: Uncommon resident.
Habitat: Evergreen forest and wooded secondary growth of extreme lowlands up to 300 m. |

RED-THROATED BARBET
Scientific Name: Megalaima mystacophanos
Family: Megalaimidae
Description and status: Large blackish bill. Male: the only barbet with a red throad. Has a yellow forehead and red hindcrown. Female: throat and head mainly greenish small reddish patches on lores and hindcrown.
Voice: chok... chok-chok...
Range: SE Asia, S Thailand, Malaysia.
Status: Common resident.
Habitat: Evergreen forest, from lowlands to about 750 m. |

BUFF-RUMPED WOODPECKER
Scientific Name: Meiglyptes tristis
Family: Picidae
Description and status: Buffy bars on both upperparts and underparts. Whitish rump. Male: red moustache.
Voice: ki-i-i-i-i-i-i.
Range: SE Asia.
Status: Common resident.
Habitat: Evergreen forest, especially around forest edge and in clearings, up to 600 m. |

FERRUGINOUS FLYCATCHER
Scientific Name: Muscicapa ferruginea
Family: Muscicapa
Description and status: Very short bill which appears mainly dark; wings not quite so long. rufous-brown back, bright orange-fufous rump and upper tail coverts and slaty-grey head with a bold white eye-ring.
Voice: -
Range: SE Asia.
Status: Uncommon passage migrant and winter visitor.
Habitat: Evergreen forest, from plains to 2,000 m. |

BUFFY FISH-OWL
Scientific Name: Ketupa ketupu
Family: Strigidae
Description and status: Large. Underparts deeper, lacking cross-bars. Upperparts darker brown with much thicker black streaks on feathers of mantle, scapulars and upperwing coverts. Shows a whitish patch above base of bill.
Voice: boob-boob-boob...
Range: SE Asia.
Status: Uncommon resident.
Habitat: Near streams in evergreen forest, parks, wooded gardens; mangroves. From plains to 800 m. |

LESSER FISH-EAGLE
Scientific Name: Ichthyophaga humilis
Family: Ichthyophaga
Description and status: Grey-headed by mainly dark tail, which shows only slight white mottling at base and a slight suggestion of a darker terminal band.
Voice: -
Range: SE Asia.
Status: Rare resident.
Habitat: Forestd streams of lower hills. |
