traditional: 白 Came from candle flame. The middle of it is a lamp-wick or mantle. At first it show the meaning of “light”, “bright”, “clear”, after that its means “white color”. In the Oracle bone script (jia gu wen) this word (白) was borrowed to use in the meaning of uncle (伯). |
